Wordless books are great to practice these visual literacy skills with but I wanted to have students use these strategies with picture books with text.

Much of the information that comes at our students is a combination of both written text and images. So how do we go about teaching students to use observation to notice the details and nuances in illustrated stories? These are motifs. What does this say?

Are there any clues to where it was taken? From the math student interpreting graphs to the music student following musical notation, or the geography student poring over Google Earth.
